For the chocolate cake
- 2.5 cups all purpose flour
- 3 tsps baking powder flat
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1.5 cups cocoa powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 orange zested
For the sauce
- 200 g dark chocolate
- 30 ml milk
- 1 tbsp butter
To prepare this Greek chocolate cake add in a large bowl the flour, baking powder, sugar, cocoa powder and salt. Whisk well using a hand whisk to combine the ingredients.
In the same bowl add the water, vanilla essence and orange zest and whisk well to form a cake batter. Be careful to scrape the flour from the bottom of the bowl.
Butter a 22×30 cm baking dish and pour in the chocolate cake batter. Bake on preheated oven at 170C/340F for about 30 min.
Remove the chocolate cake form the oven and let it cool for about 1-2 hours.
Prepare the sauce. In double boiler add the chocolate in small pieces, the milk and butter and stir with a spatula until the chocolate melts and the ingredients combine.
Use a fork to make some holes on the top of the chocolate cake and pour over the chocolate sauce.
Serve while still warm with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
